Equality - Women in Romania - project realized by Ingrid, Mihai, Tudor, Stefan (RO) in the first year project

Before 1989, during the Romanian socialist period, a "planning" of all the activity domains and not only of the economical one was attempted. Starting from the principle of equality between all the citizens of Romania, regardless their gender, nationality, professional training, both in the central legislative organs or the politics ones, and the local organs there was a mathematic principle. From the list of suggestion to its materialization through open or secret vote, this mathematical choice didn't always reflect the true potential of the citizens into a geographical area.

Though severally criticized, this mathematical option of splitting the legislative and political functions gave the possibility to all the social categories to express their point of view.

In this period, at least theoretically, the women participated actively to the economical and social life of the community. It was proved in all the statistics that they represented the ratio in the structure of the population. It's true that numerically the numeric difference between women and men mayors was small, with the exception that the women were chosen in communes or small cities, while the big cities and the capital were lead by men.

We can consider that in the 1980's there was a propaganda that promoted the woman, sustained through press campaigns, cinema, and politic literature. However, the reality was different since most of the women retained their role as a wife or as a mother.
